Scion Rugby Academy to Compete in Atlanta 7s Festival
WASHINGTON, D.C. - With the HSBC Women’s 7s World Series in full swing, the USA is gearing up to host a stop on the tour in Atlanta, GA. Not only is Atlanta hosting a stop on the Series, it will also host the Atlanta 7s Rugby Festival, which gives domestic teams an opportunity to play around the international tournament. The Scion Rugby Academy will bring two teams, their Senior Elite side and an inaugural high school select side, to the Festival.
After a very respectable showing in the Las Vegas 7s Tournament, beating Japan and playing other international teams to within a couple of tries, the Scion Elite Side hopes to continue to grow and make a statement in Atlanta. With only domestic teams entered in the Atlanta 7s Rugby Festival, Scion has their sights on the championship trophy. They’ll have to best the 2015 National Champions, ARPTC, and other ODA programs like the Northeast Academy to do this, but the Scion women are certainly up for the task.
The Atlanta tournament will also mark a first for the Scion Sirens. It will be the first time Scion will field a High School Select Side. The Scion HS Side will feature select players identified through Scion Rugby Academy’s high school outreach network. This will be an introduction to a 7s style tournament and a new mix of athletes tasked with some tough competition, including a select side fielded by Atlantis. The selected group will have their work cut out for them, but of course, no Scion player shies from a good challenge and growth opportunity.
Working hard and having fun is the Scion way, and both the Elite and High School Sides hope to bring home cups at the Atlanta 7’s Rugby Festival.
