Mission

At Scion, we take pride in our deeply rooted history of international rugby as well as the extensive rugby family we've built.  Scion is defined as a descendant; progeny; offshoot; a branch of a living tree and represents the importance of collaboration and unity in the greater rugby community. We aim to provide opportunities for our athletes to grow out of this solid, thriving foundation and become strong, independent women both on and off of the field. Our mission is to place athletes in the best possible position to excel through sport by fostering teamwork, camaraderie, hard work and integrity. The high-level rugby competitions are the perfect training ground for international teams such as USA 7s and 15s, as many of our current and former athletes have represented their country on the highest stage. Our academy challenges players and coaches to bring out the best in themselves while forming a bond with a family who loves to play! After all, rugby is a game and we believe it should be filled with fun.

History

The Scion Sirens were established in 2012 by Joanne Liu and Farrah Douglas as a collaborative women's 7s rugby team in the Washington, D.C. area. Taking elite-level players from all over the United States, the Scion Sirens compete in many international and domestic tournaments, such as the Las Vegas Invitational, Tobago 7s, New York 7s, and the Mid-Atlantic Conference championships. In order to match the ever-growing popularity of rugby in the United States, Scion launched Scion Rugby Academy in January of 2016. The Academy expanded to include coaching of local college and high school clubs, expanding our international presence, collaborating with the local national champion touch team, D.C.A Galaxy  and continuing to contribute to the development of athletes with a goal of playing at the international level for both 7s and 15s.
